Problems Beating You Down Dad?

Hey dads out there, hope that your weekend went great! It has been chaos at my house for a bit. The brakes on my truck did not work and the car in front of me was kind enough to help me stop. Everyone is fine and repairs are being made, but you talk about a problem that snuck up out of nowhere?

But today, I have a question for all you dads out there. What problems do you have that are beating you down? In a dad’s life we are hit with problems from everywhere. Many times dad’s turn to even bigger problems (drugs, alcohol or pornography) in hopes of either problemhelping or forgetting the problems they are faced with.

Dads we are the center of the household. We are the cornerstone of the family. There are times when you will have problems sneak up on you or simply attack you head on, when they do, what do you do? You see, since you are the cornerstone and center of the house, if you crack and fall, so will your house. In the photo you see a guy trying to wrestle with a big problem. Just when he get the problem wrapped up, it comes back bigger than expected and the end does not look good.

In 1 Timothy chapter 3 there is the reference to the qualifications of a preach in the first 7 verses. However, could that same thing be applied to us as husbands in our house? Just as a preacher is placed in charge of the congregation in his church with Christ at the top, the same should be said for the dad in his house.

2 An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher, 3 not addicted to wine, not a bully but gentle, not quarrelsome, not greedy— 4 one who manages his own household competently, having his children under control with all dignity.

So what hope do we have dad? If God’s word is there to tell us how we should act, where is the encouragement to get us there?

1 Samuel 12:20 Samuel replied, “Don’t be afraid. Even though you have committed all this evil, don’t turn away from following the Lord. Instead, worship the Lord with all your heart. 21 Don’t turn away to follow worthless[a] things that can’t profit or deliver you; they are worthless. 22 The Lord will not abandon His people, because of His great name and because He has determined to make you His own people.

“I pray that I would not chase after empty promises. I pray that my heart would desire you God more than anything in this world.”

James 1:2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.

“I pray that I would learn to rejoice in my sufferings and problems. I pray that You God would develop my character through the hardships you put before me. Thank you for loving me enough to put trials in my life that will ultimately shape me to be more like you.”

Proverbs 3:5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
6 think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.[a]
7 Don’t consider yourself to be wise;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

“I pray that I would trust in You God and not lean on my own understandings. I pray that I would submit to You above anything else.”

Ephesians 4:29 No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need,[a] so that it gives grace to those who hear.

“I pray that I would use my words to edify and build others up around me today.”

Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to You,
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

“I pray that the words coming from my mouth would be pleasing to You God. I pray that the things that I mediate or think on would be acceptable in your sight.”

No one said it would be easy dad! I know at times I am ready to jump in the boat and sail away to a far distance place. Then I stop and remember these verses and look back at the small kingdom that God has blessed me with. Even if the grass needs cutting, garage needs cleaning, hedges need trimming and the spider webs are on the rampage, I have been blessed! And with God on our side, we can be a great husband of a homeschooling mom!
