Date Night

Hey dads out there. I got a question for you. When was the last time that you took the wife out on a date night? Just you and her and you took her somewhere that she wanted to go or did something that she wanted to do? Last night was my wife’s night to be waited upon and taken care of. It was her birthday and I got the pleasure of spending the afternoon and evening with just her. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and I love spending time with them. However, there are times that as a man and a woman, we need time just with each other. I am not talking about that time in the evening when the kids go to bed and the two of you are physically and mentally drained and you try to make things work on frazzled nerves. I am talking about spending time with your spouse while you are completely coherent, alert and fresh. Simply put a date night.

Our date night began when we were able to leave around 3:00 today and we hit all the whole food, organic food, bulk food and any other food places that she wanted to go into. She just started typing in the addresses in the GPS and off we went. See how that worked guys? I let her decide on where she wanted to go and I did not try to put my own wants ahead, in the middle or at the end of the day. Many times the wife does not want to make a decision on what to do or where to go. But there are those times when she would like to do things and go places. Take her and don’t try to mix your pleasure into her fun. Let it be a day or night about her and her desires.

Dinner was a combination of both of our thoughts. Since we were in Florida on the coast, we settled on seafood. After seeing a place and hearing good reviews from a lady in Trader Joes, we made our way over to Walt’s Fish Market.

Walt’s Fish Market

This is no ordinary fish market, let me tell you. This was an outstanding fish market with a deep and rich history. They have been in business for 90+ years and from what I ate, I don’t see them closing down any time soon. World records have been set here by eating 684oysters in 22 minutes and 30 seconds! We both had grouper cheeks, with hers prepared with panko bread crumbs and mine being blackened with some good spices.20131009-002411.jpg It was a delightfully wonderful meal with different sides of sweet potato fries, fresh vegetables and new potato’s with roasted garlic and rosemary. Then to top off the evening there was fresh key lime pie which is their specialty. Unfortunately, we were both so full from the meal that neither of us were able to get the pie. Our waiter, Matt, was a great guy suggesting the grouper and his personal opinion of the best ways to get any meal that they had listed.

We left our great meal and headed off to more food stores and places to look about. I did score a personal find of dark chocolate espresso beans which is one of my favorites if I can ever find them. But the greatest find was a smile on my wifes face tonight. It was her afternoon with just the two of us. Time of adult conversation, holding hands, looking at what she likes, a random kiss or seven (two is never enough) and time with just each other. Guys you need this type of time with you wife.

Genesis 2:24

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

Your wife needs this time with you even if she is not a homeschooling mom. You and her were a team before you started recruiting others to be on your team. Don’t forget that! Take the time to take your wife out on a date night and enjoy each others company, the time you invest into each other will pay off in great dividends.
