What Do You Want To Be?

Hey guys, do you remember being asked this big question as you were growing up? What do you want to be? As kids many of us wanted to be like our dad. I know I did. I wanted to be the fireman that he was, I wanted to be the farmer he was, and I wanted to be the man he was. Yet when we stop and look at ourselves now, did we become what we wanted to be?

The question of “What do you want to be?” is a bit deeper this time. Your a dad, which means responsibility, family, job, and a life. Are you what you want to be? Are you who you want to be? When you get up in the morning and look at yourself, have you made it to what you want to be in life? I know that I have not. Take a look at this video and then read on.

At my church we do an Easter play each year. For the past three years I have played the part of Jesus. The hair has to be colored, but I play the part. People from all around will see me out of the church in a parking lot or a store and yell out “Jesus! Hey, Jesus!” In the beginning, this was very awkward. But people would see me as Jesus because of the part I played in a 2 hour play. For years before that, no one ever called out to me like that. I don’t yell out to others like that when I walk down the street or when I am in a store. Yet, that is who we should be seeing in each other. We should be letting God chisel our unneeded pride, self-proclaimed importance, and self worth away. Letting only that of His Son, Jesus, shine through so that others can see Him.

So when I am asked “What do you want to be?” I want to be more like Jesus. Not in the respect of me acting or looking like him on the outside. But I want to be more like Him on the inside, and let his love, compassion, forgiveness, and understanding flow out to my family. I want my kids to look at me and say, “My daddy is like Jesus.” That’s who I want to be. What about you dad?

Till next time,
Steve
