Being The Best Father You Can Be – Future

Hey dads out there! This will wrap up the four part series of Being The Best Father You Can Be. If you have just found this post, let’s back up and start here. The future is an unknown thing to us. We can try to shape it but it is ultimately in the hands of God, not ourselves. The future is also something that no man can stop. Despite everything that he may try, no man or woman, can do anything to stop the future. You may be able to change it with your actions, but you can not stop it or make it into what you want it to be.

Being the Best Father

Being the Best Father For the Future

There is one verse of scripture that many people know of when it comes to the future.

Jeremiah 29:11

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
11 For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

God know our past, present, and our future. He has the plans for us that will succeed and not fail. Especially when it comes to our kids. We the fathers are to bring our children up in training and instruction. This is for our kids sake, so that their life may be full and long on the earth. It is our job to teach, correct, and train our kids. Their existence in the world depends on what we teach them. It is not the government’s job, or the Sunday School teacher, or the Children’s Pastor place to teach your kids how to grow up. This is a job that belongs to you as the father.

2 Timothy 3:14-17

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,
15 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

I love the way that is put in the end of the scripture. “So that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Are you equipping your kids for the future? Are you using God’s word for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and for training in righteousness? If not, what’s stopping you right now?

Once you know what is right, or what you have been doing is wrong, now is the time to make the change. Will you be looked at as though you are crazy by your kids? Probably so. But in the long run dad, your kids will look back at you and realize what you were doing and love you all the more for standing up and being the best dad you could be and watching out for their future.

Till next time
