Teach Them Diligently DC Trek…Day 1.1

Wow! I mean WOW! We made it to the Teach Them Diligently in Washington and the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center! This place is nice and beyond anything that I could imagine! This is a true country bumpkin coming to the big city story in my life!

After making it here and unloading the cooler, bags, books, blankets, more bags and the crock pot, we took a quick walk about and got some lunch. Since I had spent some time in DC a few months ago during a training for my work, I suggested Potbelly Sandwich Shop. This had proven to be a great spot to eat in the past and was still great today! The whole family agreed on a wonderful lunch selection of skinny hammy, grilled chicken and cheese, and a pizza sandwich. Upon finishing our great lunch and stepping out of the Potbelly, you would never guess who we bumped into…Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett of Trim Healthy Mama. We told them that the sandwich shop was good and my wife even offered them a pita to use if they wanted one.

We then made our way just walking about the National Harbor area to see some sights. Suddenly, I felt a slight tug on my inner being as I walked around. Then then I knew this feeling from my childhood and I looked to see the Peep store. IMG_1132

IMG_1133This would be a sugar heaven if there ever was one! Did you know, that you can now get Sour Watermelon peep chicks? We made a few pictures and then headed on over to the waterfront to look at a rather strange sculpture. IMG_1134It is called “The Awakening“. The Awakening sculpture is a five piece cast iron sculpture depicting the arousing of a bearded giant with a head, hand, outstretched arm, bent knee and foot arranged to suggest that the giant is breaking free from the earth.

Now we have made it back to the resort and are taking a little break before things get going tonight.IMG_1138 The crock pot has a few burritos cooking, the kids are sleeping (or resting at least) and mama is reviewing the schedule for the weekend. All in all, I think that we are ready to kick this show into high gear. I just hope our tired bodies can keep up with our hyper minds!

Till next time…
