Taking a Break

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries
It sure would help a lot
Wouldn’t you like to get away?

Song By: Gary Portnoy

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name….NO STOP THERE.

I don’t want to go where everybody knows my name, I want a break! Have you ever felt like that guys? Just wanted to sneak away and be hidden in the crowd? Feel that anonymity? To be able to go somewhere and not have someone call out your name? YES…THAT’S WHAT I WANT!! And for the next week, I’m getting it.

Job 1

Guys, if you are they main bread winner in the house, I know you are feeling it also. You get it up and get it going early. You push through the day to be able to finish Job 1. You fight the traffic to come home and start on Job 2. Now the work at Job 2 is more important than Job 1, but you are more likely to be either physically and/or mentally tired to start Job 2. But, you’re the dad! Suck it up dad!

Job 2

So, job 2 is under way. Here, your skills and talents are at a higher demand than at job 1. The way you present ideas, discuss options, and work with others are not just showing your talents, but molding a future generation of workers as well. Here at job 2, you will more than likely out work those under you (as you put them to bed). You will then turn to the best co-worker in the world and request a one-on-one meeting. To which you get a look that says “I have been here at job 1 since 6:00…it’s 10:00…I want a hot tub of water…peace…quiet…and bed. Can we postpone the meeting till later this week?” Meeting adjourned!

Job 3

This is where I start Job 3, Children’s Pastor. Job 3 is worked into the side of Job 2 at times, but mostly separate of Job 2. It starts when I have quiet time to study and dig on research. I take Job 3 just as serious, if not more so, as Job 1 & Job 2. This job will mold not just my workers at Job 2 and Job 1, but a future generation of workers to come. My work ethic on Job 3 is shown at Job 1 and Job 2 daily.

But you know what guys, there are times when you just need to get away from everything and everyone and take a break. Even Jesus, took a break!!

23 After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone.

Matthew 14:23 (CSB)

But notice what He did as He took the break. He prayed, He continued to talk to God. Guys we all need a break, a recharge, a renewal of spirit and energy. However, we can not get that if we leave God out of the break. Get your breaks when you can and enjoy them to the fullest! But don’t push God out of your breaks.

With that, I am off to a place where nobody knows to yell “Mr. Steve” to get my attention. For the next week I can be “Hey, buddy…” and for now, I like that.

Till next time…I’m just a husband of a homeschooling mom.

Steve Blackston

My quiet spot for the week.
