Time flies by so quickly. What you are planning today will soon be memories. But the question is, how will it help or sustain our kids? We as parents strive to get it right the first time around with our kids. We all know there is no redo, or restart button or a cool DeLorean time machine to give us another shot at what happens now.
I sat down the other evening and watched it rain. It was the first rain that we had received in quite a while. I watched as the drops hit the water of the pool. Some of them would just disappear into the dark water, (yeah, it is dirty right now) and others would bounce back a white looking bubble on the water. Within seconds, it was gone. Never to be seen again.
As I watched this happen, it hit me that this is the way it is with us and our kids. We are all born into a world of sin. It is dark, dirty, and vast. Many are swallowed up by it and even add to the darkness. However, there are those who although born into a sinful world, bounce back up above it and shine. They are not held down in the sinfulness of the world. However, our time here is nothing more than a flicker of time.

so that I will know how short-lived I am.

and my life span is as nothing to you.

So parents, what are you doing during that flicker of time to help your kids rise above this darkness? We are only here as a vapor….here today and then gone. Are you formulating plans now so when your kids are in these dark places they will spring back and shine against the darkness and be able to provide that contrast to what everyone else sees? Or, are you just hoping that they will make it on their own because you don’t want to be that parent that interferes with your kids?
