PEOPLE-PLEASING

Just my thoughts and the ocean

In the face of intense pressure, Aaron gave in to the demands of the people. As a parent, I’m sure you know about pressure. Our kids can be relentless in asking us to do things outside our value system, including the movies they want to see, the kids they want to hang out with, and…

STRENGTH THROUGH HIS WORD

Just my thoughts and the ocean

The “revelation” referred to in this passage is the Word of God. Have you noticed when you don’t spend time with God’s Word, you feel less connected to Him and it is harder to live life with an eternal perspective? Before long, the world’s influence on you grows and your ability to say “no” to…

TRUTH and LIES

It is easy to rationalize sinful thoughts and behaviors when they serve our selfish purposes. Considering the standards of our culture, small compromises may seem insignificant in comparison. As Christian parents, we will be challenged over and over again not to “exchange the truth for a lie.” This may mean saying “no” to our kids…

ALLOWING CHRIST TO BE ENOUGH

Sometimes even though we diligently pray for our children, we still face rebellion, disrespect, and disappointments. In the midst of these struggles, an unspoken voice may whisper, “Is Christ really enough?” In response, we may try to control the situation and “fix” the problem. But in our frenzy of activity, we forget that bearing fruit…

LEADER OR SUPPORTER?

Just my thoughts and the ocean

It takes a special kind of leader to do the right thing in the face of intense public pressure. Aaron was an effective public speaker, but without Moses’ guidance, he yielded to the crowd’s demand to make a golden idol to worship. Many times we want our kids to have the recognition that comes with…

Are You Adding Pressure to Your Kids?

Guys, today we are hitting at what I would call a “real issue in homeschooling”.  Pressure on our kids.  Like it or not we like to think that our kids a smarter, brighter, quicker, more adapt to the ever-changing world than those who attend public or private schools.  They very well may be.  Universities and…

Aside

To receive wisdom, we must allow God to remove our “veils”. These are the things we hide behind and use to try to give ourselves a sense of security or value apart from God. They include controlling behavior, pride, perfectionism, and a desire to glorify our kids or ourselves.

What are your “veils”? Have you arranged your life so you have become too comfortable with these blind spots? Has your parenting suffered as a result? It takes courage to ask the Holy Spirit to lift the veil that covers areas we need to change. But to experience new life and Christ-like growth, we must be willing to let God remove the veils and let our sinful habits die.

Allow God to remove your “veils” and invite Him to contend with your heart.

We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.

The Technology Watchman

During the 2018 Teach Them Diligently conventions across the southeast, I was given the privilege to speak to men about homeschooling. Yet during this time, I was curious about what other dads were thinking and struggling within the homeschool life. Well, they wrote down some questions and I told them I would answer them. They…
